so i havnt made much progress with the bike yet… i may have actually gone backwards.
i was cruising craigslist for some parts for the bike and came across someone selling a complete 83 virago 750 midnight edition (all black) with a single carb kit, cut rear subframe, solo bobber seat and seat springs and a clean undented tank all for 200… only downside was no paperwork, just bill of sale.
the single carb kit was worth 200 alone so i stopped by with herb and picked it up. he throw in some more spare parts including a real nice brand new swingarm mount license plate kit.
but now that i have this bike i really like it and it looks so close to completion already… do i swap everything over? do i finish this one? wouldn’t it be sweet to build one cafe and one bobber version?!?!
heres pics of the bike…

oh and by the way heres a pic of a virago bobber from the UK or australia… cant remember…. either way its sick!

this guy needs to start mass producing these bad boys… the baddest vtwin cafe i’ve seen… minus the fat rear wheel upfront…
project price tally
350 for original bike plus spares
200 for second bike plus spares

picked up my yamaha bobber project and will be using the blog to keep track of how much money goes into it. so far…
$350 for the bike + spares.

so far what i’ve been able to find out about the bike is that the previous owner did the following mods…
-dual disc brake up front (oem was single) but it doesn’t look like the second disc was operational. i will probably return it to single. some hardcore bobbers out there ran without a front brake! i will definitely have a front brake though
-custom rear sub frame to accomodate…
-…customer dual rear suspension. stock 1st gen virago’s had a single rear mono shock under the seat instead of the two shiny coilover on there now. im still deciding whether i will keep the dual shocks in the back or replace them with rigid bars to make it a hardtail bike.
-relocated battery
-customer headlight… that has to go
planned mods
-custom solo seat
-custom wiring for just the basics. (headlight, rear light, starter)
-single headlight
-chop front fender in half and flatten it out a little to fit over rear fender
-single carb. stock viragos came with a dual carb setup that people say is hard to tune and get running in sync with one another. there are some kits out that come with a manifold to convert to a single carb.
-drag handle bars
im going to be using this bike as my inspiration. it’s the same model.
