so you think you’re an adventurous eater…
I came across this online and am hoping to try it out soon. Just thought I’d pass it along to my fellow monkeys as it sounds like some thing I would definitely love to try.
Opaque has two standard definitions*:
A. exhibiting opacity : blocking the passage of radiant energy and especially light
B. hard to understand or explain
and according to reviews Opaque, a restaurant found in the heart of san Francisco, is the epitome of both these definitions.
This restaurant’s waiters are all blind, however that’s not what sets it apart from other restaurants… all of its patrons are blind! After ordering in the hallway you’re led into a completely dark room by your visually challenged server. It is said to be so dark that you can’t even see your hand an inch from your face. You then proceed to enjoy your meal completely sightless making this quite an opaque experience since multiple reviews have mentioned how unexplainable the experience is.
It is often said that when one sense is lost, the others are increased in sensitivity and strength. Imagine judging your food purely by touching it, smelling it, and tasting it. It is eating in its purest and most primal form.
It may be to dark to use your utensils properly but it doesn’t matter. It’s pitch black; no one will be able to see you stuffing your face with fistfuls of food. But I do suggest that you do so quietly.
So there it is, a place where you’re not given the chance to judge food by its cover. One warning though, this is not for the feint of wallet. Reviewers have reported that it is 120+ a plate. On Thursdays there is a discounted 3 course meal for 75 a plate which still ranks $$$$$ out of a possible 4 $.
Keep your eyes peeled for my full review…
and if youd like to see it for yourself (pun intended) hit me up and we’ll all try it together…
